STOCK STACKER
2048, but every tile is a stock
Every fortune on this board starts with a single $1 share of GME. Stock Stacker is the 2048 puzzle with a brokerage account bolted on: a 4×4 grid of positions where every tile is a stock, and sliding two of the same stock into each other merges them into the next ticker up the ladder. Two GME make an LCID, two LCID make an F, and from there it is a long climb through the fintechs and the software darlings to the mega-caps — a $2,048 NVDA on the classic 2048 tile, and AAPL at $8,192 on the top rung.
Your score is your balance: the market value of everything on the board, added up. Merging doesn’t create money — two $64 CRWD are still worth $128 as one PLTR — so the account grows by a share of GME with every trade, and the real money is in the market itself. Every 20 trades it turns: a Bull Market doubles every position you hold, a Bear Market bankrupts everything trading under $8, and then Jim Cramer drops by with 3 trades’ worth of hot tips. Then the cycle starts over.
The market closes when the board is full and no two neighbouring stocks match. Whatever the board is worth at that moment is your final portfolio value, and the highest balance you have ever reached is your all-time high. The tidy-corner habits that win at 2048 still win here, with a twist: a Bull Market keeps the board’s shape and doubles its value, so the more you have built when it lands — after trades 20, 80, 140 and so on — the more it pays.
How to play
- Trade — press an arrow key to slide every stock on the board as far as it will go that way. On a phone, swipe across the board. A slide that moves nothing isn’t a trade.
- Merge — two of the same stock that run into each other become one stock worth double: two $1 GME make a $2 LCID. A tile merges once per trade, so a row of four GME becomes two LCID, not one F.
- New shares — every trade drops a fresh $1 GME onto a random empty square, so keep a gap open for it.
- Balance — the total value of every stock on the board. Trades counts your moves, and the all-time high is the best balance you have ever reached, saved in this browser.
- Market events — every 20 trades, always in the same order: Bull Market, Bear Market, Jim Cramer, then round again. What each one does is listed under Market events.
- Bear Market — wipes out every GME, LCID and F on the board. It costs you the small change, but it also clears space when the board is clogged.
- Market closed — when the board is full and no two neighbours match, the game is over. Play Again opens a fresh account; your all-time high carries over.
- Strategy — park your biggest stock in a corner and build the row beside it in order, biggest to smallest. Only slide away from that corner when nothing else moves.
Questions
Is Stock Stacker free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no download, no account and no real money: every dollar on the board is play money.
Does my progress save?
Your all-time high saves automatically in this browser, and it counts toward your arcade net worth — one score shared by every game on The Market Is Open. Sign in and that net worth follows you to your other devices. A board in progress isn’t saved, so refreshing the page deals a new game.
Can I play Stock Stacker on my phone?
Yes. Swipe up, down, left or right on the board to trade; the page holds still while your finger is on it. On a computer, use the arrow keys.
How is it different from 2048?
The sliding and merging work the same way, but the numbers don’t: tiles start at $1 instead of 2, your score is the value of the whole board rather than points for each merge, and every 20 trades a market event doubles the board, wipes out the cheap stocks or sends you Jim Cramer’s tips.
What is the most valuable stock?
AAPL at $8,192 is the top of the ladder. Merge two of them and you are into BRK.A, Berkshire Hathaway’s A shares and the priciest stock on the market, and it keeps doubling from there.
